Some useful information, especially for those travelling in from out of town.

Forum roof terrace

Key locations

The reunion talks, reception and ceilidh will be taking place in the new Informatics Forum on Crichton Street opposite the Appleton Tower.  

  • The full address for the Informatics Forum is: 10 Crichton Street, Edinburgh, EH8 9AB

The reunion dinner will take place at the Hub, on the Royal Mile near the Castle.

  • The full address for the Hub is: Castlehill, Edinburgh EH1 2NE

Wi-fi

Wi-fi access is available in the Informatics Forum.  The University is a member of eduroam, so if you work for another member institution you should be able to gain access using these details.

We can also provide visitor accounts for the wi-fi if required, and if you will need one please request this when you book your reunion ticket.

Parking

Parking is very limited in the University Central Area.  There are a few metered parking spaces in George Square and on Chambers Street. 

If you have any special requirements we will try and provide University parking permits for the days of the reunion, however these do not guarantee the availability of a parking space.  If you require a parking permit please request this when you book your reunion ticket.

We recommend, where possible, you make use of public transport.

Transport

Edinburgh is easily accessible by road, rail and air. 

By Air
Edinburgh International Airport is 8 miles from the city centre and has very good connections to the city centre.
From Edinburgh Airport to the city:
Airport Express bus – every 10 minutes, takes approx. 25 minutes– £3.50 each way or £6 return 
Taxi – no need to book, available at the Airport taxi rank – approx £20
Edinburgh Shuttle – fleet of mini-buses to take you direct to your hotel or venue – £9 per person each way (discounts for multiple passengers)

By Train
Edinburgh is linked by train to all the major cities and airports in Britain. The high-speed link to London gets you from one city centre to the other in less than five hours.  Full timetables can be found on the National Rail website.

By Road

Motorways and a network of quiet trunk roads ensure Edinburgh is easily accessible by road. The recently refurbished coach station at St Andrew Square in the city centre offers connections to all major cities in Britain.  Many timetables can be found on the National Express website.

Public Transport

Edinburgh has excellent public transport with far reaching and frequent buses.  For bus maps and timetables visit the Lothian Buses website.

The following buses stop near to the Informatics Forum:

On Potterrow - 2, 41, 42, 67

On Nicolson Street - 3, 3A, 5, 7, 8, 14, 29, 30, 31, 33, 37, 47, x47, 49
