Title: On social information sensing & curation

Abstract: Drawing upon extensive data analysis and user studies, this talk aims to illustrate how recent participatory-sensing platforms, which make people as information sensors, are enabling novel solutions to tackle the glut of information online. I will touch upon three aspects: managing information overload through information amplification, social bootstrapping of a connected and committed community of users, and the curation, or organisation of data, both manual and automated. Some of the datasets used in this work are available for researchers at http://bit.ly/social-bootstrapping
