I give a high-level survey of mechanisms that allocate items to
agents. The general setting is that we have a set of agents, each
of whom has preferences amongst a set of items, and we want to
allocate one item to each agents. There are various economic
criteria that we care about, such as social welfare, truthfulness,
and Pareto efficiency. I discuss these, and some computational
problems that arise in designing mechanisms.
