The grants are intended to promote innovation in teaching, research and student provision at The University of Edinburgh, especially where relatively small sums can achieve significant effect.

Universitas 21 is an international network of leading research-intensive universities. The University of Edinburgh awards a number of travel grants each year to allow PhD students to pursue collaboration or gain access to sources or facilities at other member institutions.

Royal Academy of Engineering

The Academy's Research Student Development Fellowships can provide funding of up  to £5,000 to PhD students whose research is focussed on any field of electrotechnology.

Students should apply at the start of their second year of study for a funding to support a "Personal Development Plan" running for the remainder of their period of study. This may involve research support activities and materials, including consumables; travel to conferences or to undertake collaborative work; summer schools and short courses including transferrable skills and language courses; participation in competitions.

This scheme is restricted to UK students and the deadline for applications is 1st November.
