Details of the Transferable Skills Programme for postgraduate research students in Informatics

Page Introduction to Transkills
The acquisition and development of personal transferable, employment-related and generic research skills is an important part of postgraduate research training.
Page First Year
It is highly recommended that you take the 'Managing your PhD' course along with any MSc modules recommended by your supervisor. Later in the year you should take the 'Preparing for 1st Year Review course'.
Page Second Year
Preparing and presenting your research on a poster is a vital skill for researchers. To help you we've organised highly recommended 2 training sessions about getting your research message across in print and in person. Students are also encouraged to prepare and submit posters to the Informatics Jamboree which is held each year in late November.
Page Third Year
It is highly recommended that you take the 'PhD Thesis Workshop' course in third year.
Page Elective Courses
Postgraduate research students at the University of Edinburgh have access to a very wide range of personal, professional and career development training and support. This page provides an outline of some of this support and links to further sources of information.
